How to Get a Deer Out of the Woods Without an ATV!

Ok, you have to shoot the deer, and field process it first, but then what? How do you get it out of the woods?

One option is the old winter sled. I wrote about that in my book, The Death by Bunjie Crossbow Story: Confessions of a Crossbow Hunter. That method is not the best, in my opinion.

A better option, that Genevieve and I used this year, is a good old cart. The large wheels make pulling it over debris in the woods a lot easier.

Perhaps the best part is that we saved on wear and tear on the hide by not dragging that hide through the woods! Genevieve's first buck had spots, and we wanted to preserve that hide for tanning!

Make sure you have bungee (not that Bunjie, lol) cords to strap the deer down. These carts come with straps but more straps is a good idea. This first cart is the model we used.

These other models closely resemble the style cart we use…good luck! Now, go figure out how you’re going to fill that cart!
