Wok It Up!

I’ve wanted a wok for a long time. I’ve watched all those YouTube videos. I bought a non-stick wok because I was nervous about “seasoning” cast iron but that just didn’t cut it. You can’t (or shouldn’t) get non-stick materials hot enough to really make the wok perform.

So I took the plunge and bought the IMUSA USA Light Cast Iron Wok with Wood Handles. It is pre-seasoned, and although I’ll work on seasoning it again in the near future after a few uses, it doesn’t look that hard. This one works great on our electric stove (flat top). If you have a gas stove you might be able to get away with a wok that does not have a flat bottom.

I have a lot to learn about cooking with a wok but this turned out great, in my opinion. Pepper stir fry with two eggs, spiced up with some dried jalapenos. Can’t wait to fire up some venison in this dish with broccoli!

Check out wok cooking if you haven’t already. I did a podcast this week detailing some of my experiences with it. I will post more on this later as I work venison into my wok cooking strategies!

You’re going to need the proper utensils to get the most out of your wok. A kit like this will cover all the bases!
