My (Current) Favorite Shooting Rests!

I’ve had a lot of fun with the Caldwell Deadshot Fieldpod. For a guy who started his crossbow hunting journey sighting in off a sawhorse, that was a HUGE step up!

I still use that same fieldpod today, both in the backyard and in the field. It’s great in a blind!

These are my favorites for the backyard, today, however. They are tall enough to stand behind and shoot off our elevated “crossbow” balcony down into the 60 Yard Backyard. They can be lowered to accomodate you on the ground, though, too! The best of both worlds!

This is the Bog Deathgrip, holding the Swat X1. A great rest for a great crossbow. This one has a “vise” that grips that crossbow and won’t let go—you can go away and come back later and it’ll be right where you left it.

The Bog Deathgrip (above) is a killer tripod! It’s my overall favorite, because it’s a vise-like grip that holds a crossbow and won’t let go. I use this tripod for Bunjie 100% for sighting in.

PROS: built-in level, vise-like grip that holds your scope right where you want it 100%, lots of adjustment (from standing to sitting), perfect for forward draw crossbows. CONS: probably not a good pick for mobile hunters (pretty heavy, although they sell them made of different materials so there are different weights available) and it’s not great for crossbows that don’t have straight/flat sided foregrips. Probably not the best choice for reverse-draw crossbows.

But there’s another favorite, below!

The Bog Fieldpod Magnum!

For reverse limb/reverse draw crossbows like Bunjie III, I like a field pod style tripod. It allows the crossbow to float in the grips, and seems to accomodate the shot a lot better. It also is a necessity for the curved, stylish foregrip of the Scorpyds and many other crossbows.

This tripod is really adjustable, just like we’d expect from Bog…almost too much! It’s also pretty heavy, and not the sort of grip that you can walk away from. But Bunjie III loves it, and it’s really helped us sight in in the backyard!

Whatever you choose, Bunjie and I hope you have great success!
